Srila Prabhupada

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1896-1977), Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), is the world’s most distinguished teacher of Vedic culture, philosophy and religion.

Srila Prabhupada translated over sixty volumes of classic Vedic scriptures (such as Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam) into the English language. For their authority, depth, and clarity, his books have won praise from professors at universities including Harvard, Oxford, and Georgetown. To date, 500 million of his books have been distributed in 80 languages, making him the best-selling author since the Bible.2

Throughout his works, Srila Prabhupada conveyed the natural meaning of the scriptures without interpretation, giving us an authentic rendition of the Vedic conclusions on such important topics as the purpose of human life, the nature of the soul, and detailed information about God.

From 1966 to 1977, despite his advanced age, Srila Prabhupada circled the globe fourteen times on lecture tours that took him to six continents. Though no longer physically present among us, he lives forever in his instructions, books, videos and audio recordings, and in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
